Psychoactive substances include alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs, some medications, and caffeine. How these substances are used, how often they are used, how much is used, and the settings in which they are used all contribute to how each substance affects the body and mind. To comply with Part C, Division 1 of the Food and Drug Regulations for drugs on Part A of the "List of Opioids", pharmacists and practitioners must provide this patient information handout from Health Canada at the time of giving an opioid drug when going home from the hospital or on a temporary pass.
